2021.10.23 - 13:00 Geirr Tveitt: Hundrad Hardingtonar, Nils Henrik Asheim organ, Glemmen Church, Fredrikstad
From the programme review:
Organist and composer Nils Henrik Asheim is known for going his own way. He likes the untested, he is drawn to landscapes few have wandered in and he likes to test the untested. It is therefore with great pleasure that the Egil Hovland Festival lends Glemmen Church to Asheim for this occasion.
In 2018 he released the album Edvard Grieg: Ballade / Geirr Tveitt: Hundrad Hardingtonar – Asheim, Nils Henrik (organ).
The album asks the following question: Can the best classical works win from being transcribed into organ? What new dimensions can be opened? Nils Henrik Asheim tried to answer this by transferring Geirr Tveitt's "Hundrad Hardingtonar" to the concert hall organ's color palette. It has become a project that has attracted great interest.
The executer further writes: Geirr Tveitt hit a golden vein when he combined the folk tunes from Hardanger with his unique sense of harmony and orchestration.
Asheim has based his colourfulness on "Hundrad Hardingtonar" for Orchestra, and he has utilized the entire organ's stock of creative sound combinations. The selection counts 18 pieces, from the expressive "Vélkomne med Æra (Welcome by Honour)" via the soaring "Hardingøl (Hardanger Beer)" to the mysterious "Folgafodne fortél ingjenting (Folgafodne Glacier keeps its secrets)". In Glemmen this Saturday, he will delight the local audience by playing Tveitt's fabled work. Just enjoy it.
